10 Quotes That I Live By

  1. “A writer is a writer not because she writers well and easily, because she has amazing talent, or because everything she does is golden. A writer is a writer because, even where is no hope, even when nothing you do shows signs of promise, you continue writing anyways.” – Junot Diaz.

When it comes to writing, one is expected to be at the top notch of perfection. Whether it is that you are a fountain of ideas, a human dictionary, or simply the biggest grammar Nazi of the world. There is a vision that writers are perfect writers which is scary. This quote reminds me that I am okay, I am a writer because I have written through the hardest times of my life. I use my hardships and give it a breath into the public world. Writing is my lifeline and it always has been and this quote by Junot Diaz keeps me sane and reminds me that I do not have to be perfect.

  2. “It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” – William Shakespeare.

I could never be a Christian. I know, I know. That sounds so bad but I really couldn’t ever be a Christian. Why? Because of this quote in itself. I could never live my life thinking that if I do nothing, everything my life is supposed to be happens. My life is not written in the stars, my life is not set in stone. My life is what I chose to let it be. This quote set me free from the hurdles that is trying to live my life thinking everything is going to happen if I just do nothing. It’s crazy talk, it’s delusional thinking, to be honest. This quote lets me live my life, the way I want to live it.

  3. “History is not a burden on the memory but an illumination of the soul.” – Lord Acton.

I love history, I always have and I have always hated when somebody said, “Why should I care about history?” But history is so much more than that. History is not something that you have to remember, it’s the story of how the people walked before us. It is the story as to how we are who we are. It explains how our lives came to be run the way they are. History is how we are alive. History is the story that promises our future.

  4. :”If you want to fly, give up everything that weighs you down.” – Toni Morrison.

I’ve always seen this quote as a reminder. Something you have to remember in order to survive, in order to succeed. Many should notice that when they are struggling to reach their goals, there is something tying them down and in order to ensure to reach your goals, in order to reach them at all, we must give up everything that stops us. Even the things that we don’t realize are weighing us down, even the things that we love so so much. We must give up everything that stops in order to reach our goals.

  5. “When it rains, look for rainbows. When it’s dark, look for stars.” – Unknown.

Life is hard, so hard and when you’re struggling, you must remember that there is always a time of safety, a time where everything will be okay and you must continue looking. When it is so sad that you can barely see, look for the colors and happiness that can take you out. When it’s so dark in your life that you can’t see your way out, look for the light. Look for anything that can give you even a glimmer of happiness. It is always going to be there, no matter what, no matter how, it will be there.

  6. “A villain is just a victim whose story hasn’t been told.” – Chris Colfer.

This is actually something that I use in both my life and writing. Sometimes in the real world, remembering that I don’t know everything about the most evil person in my life, helps me understand. I don’t know their story and it allows me to be civil with them. As for writing, it’s a great reminder for the villain of the story.

  7. “Write with the Breathings of Your Heart.” – William Wordsworth.

This quote actually means the most to me out of all of these. This was the first quote I used in a paper in my first high school class my freshman year. Somebody quoted this quote to me when I almost gave up writing, a psychologist told me this quote when trying to talk to me into writing about my “experiences” and it’s the quote that I plan on using for my first tattoo in December.

  8. “But first, coffee.” – Unknown.

Coffee is my lifeline when I can’t have writing. Coffee is something that keeps me awake in the morning, something that genuinely makes me happy. I sometimes drink more Coffee than the Gilmore Girls!

  9. “People come, people go – they’ll drift in and out of your life, almost like characters in your favorite book. When you finally close the cover, the characters have told their story and you start up again with another book, complete with new characters and adventures.” – Nicholas Sparks.

This quote helps me in a lot of ways. Nicholas Sparks is like a God when it comes to creative writing, personally I think their should be a book on somebodies adventures of falling in love with writing featuring “the creative writing Gods.” Complete with Nicholas Sparks, J.K. Rowling, Bram Stoker, William Shakespeare, George R.R. Martin, Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Lewis Carroll, Ayn Rand, and Sharon M. Draper. Just imagine it! #NewStoryIdea

  10. “It is a happiness to wonder; it is a happiness to dream.” – Edgar Allan Poe.

I don’t know why but this quote makes me happy. Reminds me that dreaming is okay.
